LTE forecasting: 100 million users by 2014

Posted on July 17th, 2009 in LTE by Joe

The first text LTE markets are just a few months away, so it’s natural that we’d see some forecasting on how many people will adopt the platform. It would seem a lot, since major carriers AT&T and Verizon will go with that standard. DSL Reports brings us two such forecasts. Juniper Research thinks there will be 100 million users by 2014, with enterprise catching on early and consumers adopting at around 2013. Pyramid Research is a bit more optimistic, pegging the number at 136 million. While these forecasts are nice, we still have to see LTE in action. What kind of devices will it host? What’s it going to cost for an average consumer? Until we answer questions like that, forecasting will remain educated guessing.
