Orange UK Internet Everywhere Mobile Broadband Service

Overview

The Orange brand was originally conceived in 1994 by Hutchinson Telecom but since 2001 it has been owned by France Télécom which know uses the name for almost all of it's services. Through their mobile and broadband services, Orange has over 17 million customers in the UK.

Orange has a fully integrated to 2G/3G network that covers 70% of the UK and they also have HSDPA and HSUPA networks in major cities that offer greater data speeds.

Pros: Orange offer a great monthly rate for mobile broadband if you get the plan that features a laptop. If you use a lot of data, Orange has one of the lowest out of bundle rate available.

Cons: One of the biggest problems with Orange Internet everywhere mobile broadband service is that you are tied to an 18 month contract. Also you may be subject to an increased tariff if you live outside the Orange network.


Detailed Provider Information

Plans: Orange Internet Everywhere currently has two mobile broadband packages available. For £15 per month you get a free USB broadband dongle and 3GB of monthly data usage. To receive this service you must sign up for an 18 month contract. The other plan is £25 a month and along with the USB modem and the 3GB of monthly data usage you also get an ultra compact Asus Eee PC. This bundle also includes 100 free text messages but you have to sign up for a 24 month contract. Going over your monthly data limit will cost you £0.0146 per MB.

Contract: A minimum commitment of 18 months is required with Orange mobile broadband services.

Payment Options: Payment is accepted by direct debit. We can also pay via cheque or credit card at the end of each month but you will incur an extra £3 charge.

Bandwidth Restrictions: You can expect to to see top download speeds of 1.8 Mbps on the Orange network.

Activation Fee: There is no activation fee associated with Orange mobile broadband.

Cancellation Fee: If you would like to cancel your contract before the end of the term then you will have to pay for the remaining months left on your contract.

Roaming Charges: International roaming charges for £3 per MB in Europe and £6.46 per MB in the rest of the world.

Modems and PC Cards: Currently Orange only offers one USB broadband dongle. This is an Orange branded Option iCON 225 this is available for free from Orange when you sign up for a contract.

Never had a problem with this. A few dropped connections every now and again but usually pretty reliable.
